The highest of highs and lowest of lows - You guessed it! Fort Lauderdale

Image
HUGE sigh of relief...something apparently I do often without any realization that I am actually going through the motions.  Whether it be a huff or sigh....I can feel the moment my body gives in to releasing whatever stress that seems to be trying to weazle its way into my soul. Last night earned its place in one of the lowest of lows in this adventure.  Coming in second place to Christmas eve (when we actually had to abandon the boat and seek shelter)  Nestled in an anchorage in Fort Lauderale, last night we watched as the winds continued to grow, tossing us and our boat around like we were mere pebbles of sand.  As the winds changed so did the security of the boats that surrounded us.   Our heart going out to a single manned sail boat. Watching as the man tried to manually drop anchor a mere boats length from ours!  Holding our breath we hoped; I'm sure just as hard as he did, that his anchor held and he wouldn't be sent smashing into us!...

Fort Lauderdale wins again!

As you scroll through our photos, you may find you mind wandering, guided by envy and wishful thinking.  When the truth is, this adventure could just as easily be yours. With one change in thought and one step of bravery....you could be living the life you have always dreamed of. I know it doesn't seem THAT easy...and trust me it isn't. Change is scary and often feels impossible! And yet change happens every day and some how when we have no choice...we find a way! So many people we know feel trapped by their lives, and yet refuse to see that it is their own decisions that hold them on the path they are on and it is them alone that lays the foundation to the walls they hide behind.  The key is too ensure that as you live each day, you MAKE the time to ensure that you are truly living. That you are ACTIVELY making decisions that are right for who you are today, and not getting caught up in who you were or who you thought you would be. Even now as we sit floating, waiting for ...

Fort Lauderdale: The Carrot State

Image
Okay so here we go....Lets see if I can even begin to capture the last little bit. Too be honest I have been working on this very blog posts off and on for a few days....overwhelmed by my inability to capture the emotionally ups and downs and purity of all that is happening. Its been one heck of a ride here in paradise, to say the very least. Im not even sure how many days have passed since we got renovated by an unnamed windstorm, but it feels like forever.   I think we both have struggled with Fort Lauderdale since day 1, and yet its the longest place we have been. (could there be a correlation?) Its forever the place that we are always so close to leaving and yet never seem to be able to catch that carrot! Honestly it's not Fort Lauderdale, it's us. We have come to accept that we are nomadic at heart and get a little stir crazy when we stay in one place for too long. We seek routine and yet never to do the same thing twice! We are a dilemma, to say the least.  So as we...

Fort Lauderdale - Time to get creative!

So we are still in Fort Lauderdale. Apparently, it's hard to get any work done....and if you can its not at a price that seems fair. We are both a little old school and miss the days when hard work and value were more balanced.  To think we had just installed the Solar....and were so close to being able to set off on our next chapter. Unfortunately, as the new installs for a water maker and macerator are slowly coming along (nothing is ever simple) We find ourselves coming to the end of our stay at the Marina with the main project still incomplete. With an overpriced quote submitted to insurance, we are trying to decide next steps. Do we really need power and shade (kidding we know we do) just what is the fastest and best way to achieve both? (Feel free to comment with any brilliant ideas) We are happy to call a friend on this one :)  We know we are sure we will find a solution....and at least we are closer to answers than we were; even if its by crossing off options....

Back to where it all began- Still in Fort Lauderdale

So here we sit.. Back at a Marina we both love and hate... Back where we lost our canvas, solar panels and freedom. Back to being stuck in a beautiful place that holds us captive from our goal! Back to where we never wanted to be.  Thanks to Geoff and his sane perspective we filed our insurance claim. Its funny how horrible I feel when doing nothing wrong.  We all know that feeling when we go through customs or a Police boat/car pulls up.  Somehow there is instant panic in the exact moment we should feel safe and protected. (Yes Geoff was Military and my Family is OPP) Doesn't change a thing BUT remind me just how broken we are as a society.  Needless to say....I feel guilty after 4 days floating without power....and without a response from insurance for pushing for follow up. For being the squeaky wheel.  For the record this is the EXACT reason I HATED the idea of filling another claim.  Somehow through ZERO fault of our own, I have been made to feel...

The Billion dollar home - Lake Sylvia

Image
Perspective is everything  Tucked away in a bay where the sunshine glistens across our skin, we gaze upon houses that we wonder are ever truly lived in.  We sit in a silly swing chair hung on hopes and dreams and wonder if the people inside the billion dollar homes have ever had a home at all.  Guilty of judging or writing a strangers story, I giggle at the fact that they do the same.  They look out their freshly clean windows, dressed in their freshly pressed pajamas at the rift raft that floats outside thier billion dollar home for free..... Two worlds mere meters apart....without a glimpse of understanding of the other.  As we sit eating our cold chili straight from a can....I smile at a man that makes me feel richer than any billion dollar home.  And I cannot help but wonder of the empty halls we gaze upon Wishing them true happiness and wonder if they do the same.

Hello my friends ( Fort Lauderdale)

Hello again our dear friends, Not sure who has missed us, or who has checked in but here we are again. We will see how long it lasts but for now....We are here. Just like anyone and any tasks, we are living moment by moment and focusing our energy on what feels right. This trip has been a journey, to say the very least.   Both in miles our dear boat has safely guided us through to those that are now branded into our souls. Memories we will cherish, and those that we are happy to say we survived. All in all, tis life.   No matter WHAT you are doing....life will happen. Things you see on social media will allow you to use up all your positive energy glorifying someone else's life at the cost of your own. Such a strange creature we are. After working so long with so many different animals, humans are by far the ones I will never understand. We pride ourselves on being this superior creature, untouched by any other species, and yet with it comes the cost of being in th...
